Last Saturday, 24th of March, the Vanilla Square team brought a very special guest to the Former Pupils’ Rugby Match at St Columba’s School, Kilmacolm – rugby star and man of the match in February’s Calcutta Cup, Finn Russell.
Steven Lucas, Sales Director at Vanilla Square, is a former pupil of St. Columba’s and still lives in Kilmacolm with his family, so this was a lovely opportunity for him to go back to his old school.
We were lucky to have a fantastic sunny day on Saturday, so Finn was able to do small sessions with P6, Transitus, S1 and S2 year groups over a few hours. Finn took the time to chat to the players after the sessions and give some tips, followed by a Q and A with the pupils, autographs and photos.
After the autograph session, Finn presented the awards to the winning teams of the Former Pupils’ matches.
Vanilla Square’s Spot the Ball competition had two winners who won signed Scotland Match balls, while the raffle winner snapped a Finn Russell signed Scotland rugby top.
All in all, it was a fantastic day and once in a lifetime opportunity to spend time out in the field with one of the best 10’s in the world and we were able to raise several hundred pounds, which is a good start to our charity fund.
This event is part of Vanilla Square’s ambitious project to bring schools, children, parents closer to rugby while raising funds for four amazing charities: Beatson Cancer Charity, Children’s Hospices Across Scotland, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and Doddie Weir5 MND.
