Boxing Day is usually about walking off Christmas dinner, watching movies and spending time with the family. But did you know that December 26th is also a great time to sell your home?
Tradition dictates that the spring months are the best time with a rise in listings in April and May, but by delaying your house sale and waiting until spring you could be missing a trick.
If you think about it, at Christmas people have house guests and often family and friends to stay. This can highlight the need for more space as they realise how small their house actually is, especially with the added clutter of a Christmas tree and Christmas decorations!
In addition, Christmas and New Year are times when people look towards the future and think about how they can make changes and look for new opportunities. This often can include their living situation. There is also a spike in people’s personal circumstances changing – with Christmas Day a popular time for people to get engaged (we won’t mention the family arguments leading to a more negative change in circumstances!).
However, these reasons aside, the proof is in the (Christmas) pudding….stats from Rightmoave last Christmas showed that there were over 3 million visits to the site on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with a 40% increase in visits on Boxing Day compared to the previous two years. In addition, on the first day back to work last year there were 4 million visits. Meanwhile Zoopla reported a 36% increase in Boxing day site for the previous two years. So if you’d like to capture those people getting ahead of the game and looking for a new property for 2019, get in touch with our team and we’ll get you on the market in time for Christmas.
